Jon Lee's blogCool new stuffA locally produced TV show is in the process of getting rid of all of their stuff now that the show has ended, so Aaron and I went down there today, and acquired a whole bunch of great stuff. This is all going to be used in the completion of our cockpit. Things are really shaping up nicely! Anyone know where we could get a couple of airplane yokes? :) Cameras rolling againYes it's true, the cameras were once again rolling this weekend. Earlier in the week, Damien surprised me with a call telling me that he had set up a shoot for the weekend, in order to complete some of our remaining (non cockpit related) scenes. So after a few days of furious planning and phone calls, we got the people arranged, and figured out the elements we needed. A quick plundering of a popular TV show's wardrobe lock-up provided the requisite costumes for our cast, as well as a little advice from the prop's department regarding an important element, and we were good to go. A small group of us (Me, Miranda, Damien, Dennis and his son Jake) gathered at Damien's house Saturday morning, where we had the actors try on their costumes (yay, they fit perfectly!), and Miranda did their make-up. We then loaded up our people and stuff, and off to Aaron's! Cockpit buildYes, it is actually happening. Last week, we spent a couple of days in Aaron's garage with power tools and bits of wood and stuff. We managed to use the power tools to fashion the bits of wood and stuff into a cockpit shaped thingy. We got all of the walls framed and put up, we skinned them, and started attaching the vacuform panels to them. The drive controls are roughed in, but we still have to wire in the electronics. We also have to form and install the window panels, and paint everything. But some of the hardest stuff is behind us. It's great to see it finally coming together. Forward progress you say?Seems like we actually have some of that happening. It appears as though there was a lot of miscommunication between our construction coordinator, and everyone else involved with the project. Poorly chosen words led us to believe something that apparently wasn't true. So, that being said, the materials needed to start building our cockpit were purchased last week. Construction on said cockpit is slated to begin this week. We're also on the hunt for various bits and bobs to make blank walls and consoles look like they make things go whoosh. I have some leads, so hopefully they pan out. Happy Birthday Kitty!Today is our very own Kitty, Laura Sutherland's birthday. Happy Birthday Laura What's happening over at ITB?As many of you have noticed, there's not a lot of activity on the site lately. You're all probably wondering what the heck's going on with ITB - the summer release date came and went without so much as a "by your leave". Nobody connected with the show has had much to say as to what's going on. Are they still filming? Do they have a planned release date? Were they all wiped out during a weapons malfunction? Well the answer to all 3, currently is no. Here's what's happening with the project. The last time we filmed anything, was about a year ago. Why so long you ask? Well, we had pretty much shot everything we were able to up to that point. The bulk of what's left to shoot takes place in the ship's cockpit. That cockpit isn't built yet. Why isn't it buit? Well, that's what we'd all like to know. Our construction coordinator has had a number of personal and professional obligations that have kept him away from the build...plus, I'm fairly certain he's easily distracted by shiny things. Unfortunatenly for us, we don't have any other recourse with regards to the build at present. So we're stuck waiting on it to be started, let alone finished. ITB and Free Comic Book Day pt. 2Just wanted to say thanks to the folks who came out and saw us today down at Elfsar, and to the ones who came later in the afternoon (possibly from the meet-up group), so sorry we missed you. We'd gone down the street to get something to eat, and upon our return were informed we'd missed people who'd come down to see us. We ended up stationed in the "Whedon Corner", where Elfsar's owner/manager Ethan had set up a bunch of Whedon related merchandise. This is also where the TV was that we played our DVD on. No, the episode isn't done, but we had a DVD of promo stuff. There was the original V-Con trailer, the new Trailer that Damien literally spent all night (and portions of this morning) cutting together, the Global News story, and the Christmas special. This was playing in a continuous cycle all day. For the early part of the day, we mostly felt like we were in the way of what was going on in the store, but later on people started asking questions, and noticing that some of us in the store, were up there on the screen. That part was fun, for a lot of the time though we were just amusing each other, as we often do. Good times. ITB and Free Comic Book DayElfsar (in Yaletown) is hosting a Free Comic Book Day event at their store on Saturday, May 5th. For those who don't already know, ITB has been invited as guests. Ethan, the owner, is a die-hard Browncoat, and is very supportive of ITB, and wants to help us promote it in anyway that we can. Various members of the cast and crew will be on hand to talk about ITB, and general Firefly goodness. So if you're in Vancouver, stop by and say hi :) Here's a link to the information on the Elfsar website: A productive dayToday was a big day for us here at ITB, for a few reasons. Filming continued, and we got a lot shot, in a short amount of time. We had three scenes to finish up in the galley/infirmary, and we managed to pop them off very quickly - yay us. It was also Miranda's 1st anniversary with ITB. Yep, it was 1 year ago today that Miranda first came to the set after having won the role of Sera York. And what a fast, fun year it has been. Finally, Global television (for the non-Canadians, it's one of our major national networks) came by the set today to do a story on us. They shot some footage of us working on the set, as well as conducting a few interviews. We'll try to give everyone a heads up when it's slated to air. Flanvention 2 Cancelled! For those of you who may not have heard yet, Booster Events pulled a last minute cancellation on Flanvention 2. There's more on it at Whedonesque: http://whedonesque.com/index.php?comments=11988 The Booster Events webpage has been taken down, with only a brief message saying the event was cancelled in it's place: I, for one, am just sickened by this. My heart really goes out to all the Browncoats who have invested so much time and money into this weekend, only to have it ripped away from them. A big shout out to the NoCal/SoCal Browncoats who are scrambling to throw a Backup Bash for everyone. |
