Glowing Dust

Glowing Dust

Samsara passes in front of a cloud of glowing gas.

While the temptation is to call the background object a nebula, this would be highly unlikely. Nebulae are Huge; much larger than a solar system. If this were a nebula, then that same nebula would be visible from every planet and every part of the system, and we would have seen it before now.

So, the cloud must be some (much smaller) cloud of gas, left by a comet or collision of asteroids or similar phenomena.

Of course, the real reason to put it in is because it looks cool, but to call it a nebula would be a misnomer.

Oooo, lookit the pretty colours....

Hexagonal iris?

Using a hexagonal iris, and hence flares, is somewhat of an artsy touch... Is that one of your own, or did Firefly have that?

It's not a bug; It's a feature!

I haven't seen that in Firefly. I don't think camcorders have hexagonal irises. The hex reflexes are a feature of the "Sun" reflexes preset in Cinema 4D's lens flare generator. A quick google search seems to indicate that's more of a microscope style iris, so I should probably change them to circular reflexes. Well spotted.

It's in Firefly

I just happened to watch the second episode after finding out about this wonderful site and browsing through all the pretty pictures. Carefully watch the part where the Firefly goes into atmo after the bar brawl scene. You'll see the lens flare effect used during the burn is set to hexagonal and is rather more subtle. Good luck with this project!

Looks purty!

Looks good! Although I kind of agree that the hexagonal lens flare is a bit odd. Did you create the 'nebula' in C4D as well?

The 'nebula' is a composite photo

The 'nebula' is a composite of hubble space telescope images, as well as elements taken from photos of clouds. That's mapped onto a curved piece of geometry placed in front of the starfield background. So it's more Photoshop than C4D.
