Jon, the Captain
Jon Lee is the captain of Samsara and the leader of our crew, despite which he also has the most secrets. No one (save Dr. Call) knows where he came from or what he did before he became the skipper of Samsara, and even the doctor only knows what little Jon has been willing to reveal. One of the few things that the crew do know is that Jon is something of an antique lover; all things historic, old, and ancient Jon loves, especially artifacts from Earth-That-Was.
Jon primarily gets his "less official" jobs from Mr. Tong and the Jade Heron Tong, a crime family as powerful as the White Roses that has pledged itself to protect Sera from Elisabeth York. Jon has had enough dealings with them to be considered a "friend" - or at least someone they'd prefer not to shoot, all things considered. Jon also has a serious hatred towards the Alliance and is slightly paranoid about them. He always takes an extra step (often too many extra steps) to avoid being seen or detected by the Alliance - steps which have been highly successful so far, as he has rarely been on the radar of Alliance authorities and does not have a criminal record of any sort. Although he doesn’t look the part, he can be incredibly clever at times; some situations he’s been in have been settled by interesting coincidences or circumstances that are either extraordinarily unlikely - or a genius plot. Unlike a certain Browncoat captain we’re all familiar with, Jon tends to run more than fight... himself. Generally not a man who’d commit acts of violence his own self, Jon is nonetheless more than willing to let others (namely Teddie or Kitty) do it for him when there's a need. He carries a simple yet distinctive six-shooter with which he is a good (but not amazing) marksman. One interesting quirk about Jon is that at times he seems to say things that are spoken as if they would make sense, but clearly don’t. Something is not quite right in that brain pan of his - despite which, he usually seems to be able to understand people incredibly quickly and deeply, sometimes better than they understand themselves. He is also an amazing gambler, and in lean times has been known to keep Samsara in the sky by emptying the pockets of everyone else around the Tall Card table. |
