Biographies of the Into the Black characters

Jon, the Captain

Troy Rudolph as Captain Jon Lee
Jon Lee is the captain of Samsara and the leader of our crew, despite which he also has the most secrets. No one (save Dr. Call) knows where he came from or what he did before he became the skipper of Samsara, and even the doctor only knows what little Jon has been willing to reveal. One of the few things that the crew do know is that Jon is something of an antique lover; all things historic, old, and ancient Jon loves, especially artifacts from Earth-That-Was.

Call, the Doctor

Harrison Dark as Dr. Marion Call
Dr. Marion Call is the ship’s medic, second in command and Jon’s closest friend - which isn't really saying much. He is the only member of the crew who actually fought in the Unification War - which side he was on has been debated amongst the crew. The fact that he never specifically wears Alliance or Independent colours doesn’t help either.

Kitty, the Gunhand

Laura Sutherland as Kitty Tsang

Katrina "Kitty" Tsang is one of the cutest killers in the known ‘Verse. She has a twitchily happy disposition and usually has a smile on her face (next to the nasty scars). This makes those who know her best a bit worried and edgy. Kitty is a freelance mercenary, and the first person Jon will call if he's short-handed for a job, or knows that things are likely to be interesting enough to require more firepower.

Sammy, the Engineer

Jason Begg as Sammy West

Samson West. A fine hero’s name. It’s just a shame he ain’t the hero type. Sammy is Samsara’s genius mechanic. A mad scientist in the making, Sammy loves to tinker. He’s always making little inventions (chemical or otherwise) and is rarely not smudged with parts of the engine or his latest project. He even built Samsara’s pulse drive! In fact, ever since he set foot onto Samsara he’s been making the odd modification here and there. At this point, Samsara only superficially resembles the Skyhook class ship it's supposed to be...

Hank, The Bodyguard

Sean Bygrave as Hank Forsberg

Henry (Hank) Forsberg is Sera’s bodyguard and mentor. He has been with Sera ever since she was born and has never left her side. He is, in a very real sense, her surrogate father - the fate of Sera's real father, Bastian, is something of a mystery.

Not much is known about Hank’s past other than he has been with the White Roses for most of his life. Any personal information about him before then has remained, well, personal. While in the White Roses he quickly rose from being a lowly peon to the protector of the syndicate’s most valued treasure, its future 'queen', Sera.

Sera, the Aristocrat

Miranda Coombe as Seraphina York

Seraphina York was born into a life of crime, rich and privileged. All her life she was surrounded by luxury, a kind of criminal noblewoman: Sera York is the only daughter of Elisabeth York, the matriarch of the White Roses crime syndicate.

Side Characters

Here you will find the various other folk who star in one or more episode.

The Boss (Ep. 1-01 "Mined Control")
Only known as The Boss this pleasant looking lady is anything but. Although she may look and seem a kind of sophisticated wealthy folk, her mannerisms are clearly that of the Rim. Always displaying a kind of fake sophistication as well as her goons, The Boss is the crime lady of Iscariot and although she may not be the most powerful person in the ‘Verse she is most certainly the most powerful person on the planet. Always scheming and thinking for the next profit line The Boss has been known to look like a Lady but act like a thug. Ain’t no honourable bone in her body, which makes her completely untrustworthy but very rich (for a Rim world crime lord).
