Cast and Crew Bios

Descriptions of the cast members and key crew of Into the Black

Miranda Coombe

Actor, "Seraphina York"

Miranda says:

Let’s see... I have been acting since before I can remember. My journey into acting began at age 3 when I auditioned to be on Sesame Street as one of those kids who talk to the Muppets, But I was turned down the role for being too well behaved during the audition. >.< So I started taking drama/improv classes to unleash my energy and further my learning of the craft. Now I have worked on commercials for local television stations, done work as an extra and has performed in almost every single one of my high school productions. When I am not on stage, I can be found swing dancing, singing Broadway show tunes, doing technical/behind the scenes work in theaters and dressing up as an elf and spending my life savings on trips to far away conventions.

Matthew Baumann

3D graphics artist, compositor, (tetracanth)

Matt says:

I'm Vancouver born and raised, and a longtime fan of science fiction. Particularly the whole spaceships, technology and vehicles side of things. In grade 7 I discovered that 3D graphics were a more suitable medium for making spaceships than lego and sheet styrene. Since then it's been a hobby and occasionally a source of employment.

Laura Sutherland

Actor, "Kitty Tsang", Producer, set designer, doer of things

Laura says:

Hmmm... about me, let's see.... I'm a geek. Tried and true. Star Wars, LotR, Battlestar Galactica... it's all good. I've been a Firefly fan ever since the beginning, which is probably why I got involved in this whole project. I'm also one of the assistant organizers of the Vancouver Firefly Meetup Group (I guess I'm just a keener).

Troy Rudolph

Actor, "Captain Jon Lee", Costume Designer, etc.

Troy says:

Born and raised in the wilds of suburban Calgary, Alberta, I spent 9 years slaving away in the film industry there before things dried up, and I was forced to seek greener pastures in Vancouver. During my time in Alberta, I worked as an Assistant Director, Production Assistant and Actor on over 70 film, television and commercial productions, and have been fortunate to work with some of Hollywood's finest.

Jason Begg

Actor, "Sammy West"

Jason's love of acting started in his elementary school with his role as "the Phantom of the Opera" in the a Christmas play. The role was to run across the stage and do a spin mid way... he almost took a nose dive into the crowd...

Sean Hardcastle

Location Manager, Set Designer, Lighting Director, etc.

Sean says:

Ok, a little bit about me. I have Jason (Sammy) to thank for getting me hooked on Firefly back in the summer of 2005, although I have always been a sci-fi geek. In high school I was a total theatre geek, and worked in lighting, sound, rigging, set building and production management. I also spend lots of time outdoors doing pretty much all the crazy sports; rock climbing, kayaking and the like. Since school I have been working the technical end of the theatre industry to pay my way through my Commercial Pilot’s License. Well, that’s all for me, hope you all enjoy our little film here.
